JANUARY has beautiful white covered trees, quieter nights with snow covered grounds, and sparkly twinkle lights. Amongst the beauty there can be challenges. Some of the most common challenges I help clients navigate in January are a dry scalp and hair, hair loss, chapped skin, and a feeling of bleh! After the holidays a lot of people feel a need to rest and regroup. It can be hard, but allow yourself that time to rest! Read on for some education and help with other challenges.

Let’s Solve Some Dry Hair Winter Challenges
To help your hair heal from feeling dry and brittle think moisture, hydration, and protection. Don’t forget scarves and hats are the first in line to protect your hair from the elements! Another option is to treat it while you wash. If you just need some hydration, my favorite is the Aluram Purple Hydrate and Repair Treatment , and it’s a steal for $17.99. Marigold and Squalane Oil deeply condition, detangle, and revive dry and dull hair from daily damage (Aluram).
For my blondes who need extra love, Intensive Replenishing Mask is enriched with 11 amino acids and argan oil. Its unique formula moisturizes, strengthens hair structure and repairs surface damage while increasing shine and color retention (Oligo). This luxury product is still a bargain for the luxury market at $35.
Scalp healing is must! A healthy scalp promotes hair growth and protects your body from intruders. How can you protect and heal your scalp from being dry and chapped? It depends on your situation. If you tend to have scalp issues often, I would suggest you go see a dermatologist. If you need some seasonal relief make sure you are using a conditioner with your shampoo. There is a trend going around that people are shampooing and skipping the conditioner on the scalp. This has been a desire for anyone who struggles with volume. But don’t do it! Be intentional when you are shopping for products and get shampoos and conditioners for Fine hair or a bottle that promotes Light conditioning. But if you are changing the pH of your scalp with shampoo then you need to bring it back to normal with it’s conditioner. Some manufacturers have created a shampoo and conditioner in one. If you want to use one product that would be my suggestion. But if you get highlights, color, and want a volumizing pair, then you need to use the conditioner that goes with it. Get a great haircut that can install some detail work by lifting the crown hairs and creating volume or use volumizing foam with a blow-dryer.
Hair loss will happen when it gets cold, but there are some things you can do that keep your hair growing! Along with keeping your scalp in the right condition with shampoos and conditioners, you must create stimulation to the scalp! Enjoy a scalp massage daily! I heard that peppermint oil and rosemary are great for creating growth as well! Always be careful when making things on your own. You should use reputable oils and blend it with a carrier oil. But a lot of manufacturers create beautiful products that cause hair growth. One that I have loved and now offer at my suite is Density Serum. It minimizes grey hair, reduces shedding, and promotes hair growth.
Healing skin from winter fun
Dry damaged skin from outdoor fun? Be careful when choosing how to handle this. Is your skin sensitive or sensitized? Sensitive skin tends to react to products and skin treatments regularly, but sensitized skin is when a person with regular or oily skin gets chapped skin from being out in the cold or sunburned. One of my favorites is Hydropeptide Soothing Balm . If you are someone who usually can handle active serums then you do not need to buy a whole line of sensitive skin products. They are great after you receive any strong treatments on your skin or if you get a sunburn, etc. But if you are looking for immediate relief from the pain and sting of dry chapped skin, I love Hydropeptide Soothing Balm. This amazing serum hydrates and protects sensitized skin while still giving the ani-aging benefits your skin craves (hydropeptide).
Are you feeling bleh? Create an organic opioid reaction by going for a walk outside! Yes, go outside with all your layers of long underwear, a coat, scarf, and mittens. Maybe enjoy a hot beverage as you go out. But go find a trail (with your boots on) and smell the pine trees! It is such a cheap pain reliever and mood booster! Want to really go for a trek? https://www.alltrails.com/us/minnesota has some good information!
